Delivery / Assessment:

FAW training is delivered through a combination of theoretical study and practical scenario-based learning.  The course is mostly practical with plenty of opportunity to develop skills and confidence.  Candidates will be given a study guide and handouts to help them expand their knowledge.  A minimal amount of ‘homework’ will also be expected. The role of a First Aider can be physically demanding and candidates are reminded that they should be able to cope with this level of activity and are advised to wear comfortable clothing.

The course is assessed through continual observation by the instructor, along with a final practical and multiple choice assessment.  On successful completion of this course, candidates are issued with a certificate valid for 3 years, permitting them to practise First Aid in the workplace.  Following this period, candidates are required to attend a 12 hour (2 day) requalification course.

In order to avoid ‘first aid skill fade’, HSE recommends that candidates undertake an annual refresher / skills update.  This is offered at a discounted rate to candidates who have received a Safe Hands First Aid Training certificate.
