This course is designed for families to learn first aid together and covers how to deal with a casualty of any age in a variety of risk situations. It provides your family with the skills to help each other in an emergency or when general accidents happen around the house. Training is suitable for anyone aged 10+, however depending on the individual, some young persons may lack the upper body strength to be able to carry out effective chest compressions (however can learn the theory). If you are under the age of 16, you must attend the course with a responsible adult (maximum 2 young persons per adult). There is a maximum limit of 6 families per course.
Pre-requisites: Candidates must be able to carry out procedures detailed in the course outline.
Dealing with an emergency
Recognising & managing an unconscious casualty
Resuscitation (all ages)
Choking (all ages)
Control of severe bleeding & managing shock
Treatment of severe burns
Recognition & treatment of poisoning
Bone, muscle & joint injuries
Common illnesses/conditions (inc asthma, allergies, chest pains & stroke)
Delivery & Assessment:
Minimum theory with lots of opportunities for confidence building and skills development through practical exercises. Our instructors are all qualified teachers with plenty of experience teaching first to adults and children. On completion of this course, each member of the family will receive a certificate of learning in Family First Aid from Safe Hands. Each family will receive a training pack* to take away which includes a comprehensive first aid manual (*one per group).
